April 15 - April 19

Monday-Wednesday - Career Webquest.  Students will work through a webquest that helps them identify careers they would enjoy based on their interests and skills.  They will research 3 careers from that list before deciding on one.  The final step of this project will be an in-class interview.  Students will choose a classmate to interview them on the questions provided in the packet.  They will answer the questions as if they were interviewing for the career they chose.

Thursday - Library Day.  Mystery Short Story and play "Clue" as an introduction to our mystery novel.

Friday - NO SCHOOL! :)

February 4 - 8

This week we will be completing 6 pages of notes in our interactive notebook.  I expect students to be done with all 6 pages of notes by the end of class Wednesday.  Whatever is note completed in class should be done at home and completed by the time class starts on Thursday.  

Thursday - complete 'Text Structures: Definitions' worksheet given on Monday; Complete text structures task cards.  Task cards will be due on Monday.

Monday- Comprehension Test Review (Go over test from last week)

Tuesday- Non-fiction Main Idea TEST.  Students will use the color-code system we have learned in class to identify the topic sentence, transitional sentences, and supporting details in a passage, complete a graphic organizer, and write a summary.

Wednesday- Author's Purpose IN; Begin Task Cards

Thursday- Finish Task Cards in class (whatever is not completed in class will be homework)

Friday- Adverbs Test; rough draft of all 12 poems due (handwritten)

We are beginning a nonfiction unit this week, so most of our work will be done in the interactive notebook.  A few worksheets will be assigned to check for comprehension, but should not be very time consuming.

January 8 - January 11

This week will be a Poetry Writer's Workshop.  Students will have all week to work on 12 poems.   I will make 3 due per week, but after this week, I am not planning on providing any additional class time to work on their poems.  I expect students to complete at least 6-9 poems this week.  The due dates are listed below.  After completing the 12 poems, students will choose their best 6, type and illustrate them (by hand), and turn them in by February 14th.

 

  • Friday, January 11 -  Preposition, Adjective, and Diamond Poems

  • Friday, January 18 - Adverb, Clue, and Acrostic Poems

  • Friday, January 25 - Haiku, Tanka, and Apology Poems

  • For the hw, students have been instructed to write their own summary on a piece of notebook paper first, and then go back to the answer choices and find the answer that is most similar to their summary.  2 sheets will be turned in: the worksheet with the answers bubbled for the 2 short stories and a piece of notebook paper with the summaries in their own words.
