ABOUT ME

Welcome!

My name is Mrs. Tillman and I teach reading and language arts. This will be my second year teaching at Travis and I'm so happy to be a part of this wonderful 5th grade team!  I have worked in various educational settings and positions and find true passion in educating young minds.  I previously taught first grade for two years at a STEM charter school in Dallas and also coached the girl's middle school basketball team.  It was through coaching that I discovered a real joy in working with upper elementary and middle school students.  I believe that an open line of communication is essential for having a successful school year, so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, joys, or concerns.  I look forward to working with your child and family this school year!

A little bit about me:

I grew up in the DFW metroplex and graduated from Colleyville Heritage High School.  After high school, I attended the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'Em!), so most Saturdays you can find me watching (or praying for) my longhorns.  I received my bachelors in Human Development and Family Sciences, and after working for several years developing mentoring and tutoring programs for schools, decided to get my teacher's certification.

My husband and I have been married for one year (i.e. the confusion about my name) and he is an 8th grade math teacher in Dallas ISD.   We have one fur child, Ayla, our beloved but crazy cat.

As a teen, I spent much of time participating in sports, a hobby which I still continue today.  I love to talk sports and am a football fanatic.  Some of my other hobbies include gardening (attempting to anyway), reading, journaling, and running.  I began a Master's program in May for Educational Leadership and Policy so I will be busy studying in my free time as well!
